At PAWS of Coronado we believe that pets and people should be a perfect match. Adopting a furry member into your family is an important lifelong decision and we want what is best for the animals and for you.
The dogs and cats available for adoption through PAWS are housed at the Coronado Animal Care Facility (ACF), a city of Coronado run facility overseen by the Coronado Police department and manned by city employees.
Our cats and dogs are extremely social – they are “The Friendliest Paws in San Diego County!” This is due in large part to the tender loving care of the ACF staff and PAWS volunteers. The volunteers work with the animals through the dog walking program, the cat petting program and the cat strolling program.
Because we have such hands on experience with the animals, we can help you find the best match for you and your lifestyle.
The Adoption Process
Meet Our Cats & Dogs
You can preview our adorable adoptables on our website or on Petfinder or Adopt-a-Pet. They are also featured in the Coronado Eagle, on e-Coronado & Coronado Patch.
You can meet them in person at the Coronado Animal Care Facility (ACF) daily from 9:00am to 4:00pm. Please note that the ACF is closed on all City holidays.
The Coronado ACF is located at 1395 First Street Coronado, CA 92118 at the south end of the Ferry Landing complex. If you need more information about them, you can contact them at 619-522-7371.
Complete an Application
Applications are available at the Coronado ACF. You may also download and print out an application form for completion and bring it to the Coronado ACF.
You may also complete one of our our online applications:
Applications are considered in the order they are received. Please note that the ACF staff is not aware of all applications submitted and so are not able to tell you if yours is the first application submitted for a particular animal.
Cat and dog adoption counselors will review your application and will help to decide if the animal you are interested in is a good match for your lifestyle and if necessary will direct you to any other pets that may be appropriate.
For cat adoptions an application and interview are all that is required.
For dog adoptions an application, interview and home visit are required.
Please note that if you do not find a new animal companion, your application will be kept on file for three months.
