Betsy: A Dog Adopted

Betsy a paws of coronado dog for adoption

Betsy was relinquished. She is an active, beautiful pit bull with a smiling face, and our dog trainer, Brian, had been working with her, teaching her basic manners and how to walk well on a leash. A navy man came in and immediately filled out an application to adopt her.

As usual, we expressed our concerns about being in the military and having a pit bull. What would happen to Betsy if he were deployed? Did he realize that it was going to be hard to find a place to live that will take pit bulls?

We decided on a foster-to-adopt plan. Brian went out to the man’s home to work with Betsy. He even took Betsy and the man and a PAWS volunteer to a nearby dog park. We still were worried about the possible complications due to the military, though.  At one time we told the man that it might be easier for him to adopt a child than to adopt a pit bull! This man never wavered. He really loves Betsy, and he was so grateful for all the work we did to make the adoption happen. She has found a good, loyal family with him.

Thanks to the ACF staff, the few dog walkers who could walk such a strong girl, the media team and photographers. Her picture and story on the website brought this man in to meet her. And special thanks to Brian for going the extra mile for Betsy.
