In keeping with our mission statement to partner with the City of Coronado to function as advocates for the animals at the ACF, PAWS of Coronado has successfully run a preemie kitten program for many years called the Itty Bitty Kitty Program.
There are many free roaming cats throughout Coronado that give birth to a multitude of kittens every year. Many of these kittens are brought into the ACF either with or without their mother.
In either case, temporary foster homes are needed for them, particularly for those kittens without their mom who need to be bottle fed, kept warm and helped with developing social skills and learning how to excrete on their own.
We have a number of volunteers who are long time participants in this program, but with an annual increase in the number of kittens being brought to the ACF, we can always use more foster homes.
Volunteers participating in the Itty Bitty Kitty Program will be trained in preemie kitten care if necessary, equipped with all supplies and will foster the kittens until they are old enough and weigh enough to be spayed or neutered. In some cases, the kittens return to foster care to recover after their surgery before they are released for adoption.
