July Member Spotlight
Meet Penny Nyquist – Director, Board of Directors
Each month we will feature a member to find out more about their story and involvement with PAWS.
How did you initially get involved with PAWS?
In 2003 my husband and I were returning from a trip over the bridge and stopped by Petco for cat food. It was there we met Donna Gilbert and Louise Shirey. They had brought a few shelter cats to exhibit at the store. They told us about PAWS and asked if we would like to join the organization. We signed up! We were told about the Animal Shelter, which was on 6th St. at that time, and that they needed help cleaning and feeding and walking the dogs and playing with the cats. It was alot of fun helping the animals and alot of work and very rewarding . Later Louise invited me to be a board member and I accepted.
What is your favorite thing about working with PAWS?
My favorite thing is to see that everyone involved with PAWS has the same goal – keeping the animals healthy and happy and adopted to the best homes.
If you won one million dollars, how would you spend it?
I would take the one million dollars and enlarge the shelter and increase staffing to include full time personnel.
If you were granted three wishes, what would they be?
That all the deadly deseases that afflict dogs and cats be eradicated.
That there would be no euthanizing of healthy dogs and cats in shelters.
That all owners will treat their animals with love and respect.
