Nelson A Dog Adopted
Our beautiful brown lab, Nelson, was adopted yesterday. A gentleman who works in Coronado and lives in Vista saw Nelson at the ACF. He just couldn’t get Nelson out of his mind. He came back a number of times – once bringing his bride-to-be. They both liked Nelson, but with a May 5th wedding, a trip and a move, it was not the right time to adopt a dog. After all the festivities, the gentlemen came back to the ACF and Nelson was there waiting for him. Their resident dog, Master, came to meet Nelson, too. We all held our breath knowing Nelson doesn’t always care for other large dogs. After a couple of barks, the two dogs went for a walk together. Twenty minutes later they were fine!
Leaving the ACF was harder for us than Nelson. Master jumped in the back seat of the car and Nelson jumped in front with his new Dad. As they pulled away, Nelson looked over at us and it looked like he was smiling. It was as if he knew that he had found his family at last.
I spoke with the Dad this afternoon. Nelson and Master are “best friends” playing together and chasing gophers in their 2 1/2 acre yard. He has a new igloo bed that he just loves. Inside is his favorite blanket from his long stay at the ACF. As with so many of our animals, Lucky Nelson went to the perfect home.
Thanks David and JoAnn for fostering Nelson. They actually observed that he might be ok with other dogs. Thanks Margaret for coming in on an unscheduled day to make sure the meeting with Master was handled properly. Christina, I’m sure Nelson thanks you for his blanket! A great big thanks to the dog walkers, media team and photographers for making this all work.
