Pearl: A Dog Adopted
Pearl came to the ACF on July 3rd. She was found alone at Tidelands Park, frightened and very dirty but a sweet girl. The next night, when all the fireworks went off at once, little Pearl gave birth to three beautiful puppies. We think the explosion might have frightened her into labor. She has been a wonderful mom, and, last week, Pearl, America, Justice and Liberty were spayed and ready for adoption.
Along came one of our wonderful dog walkers. She loves every small dog that passes through the door of the ACF, but she took one look at Pearl and said “she looks exactly like my dog at home”. She brought her husband in to meet Pearl and he agreed that they would like to adopt her. The next morning Pearl went home. The two dogs did OK together. At some point that first evening Pearl thought it would be a good idea to jump into bed with her new Mom and Dad. Up she went and out popped a stitch from her spay. The next day was spent at the VCA Emergency Hospital in Mission Valley. She was stapled back up and home she went. She will need some assistance onto the bed until her incision heals completely.
Our last update is that Pearl is doing great. She loves to take Mom for a walk. Her brother Oscar’s nose was a little out of joint at first, but he is doing fine now and likes having a playmate.
Special thanks go to the two ladies that fostered Pearl and the pups until they were old enough to come back to the ACF. Pearl didn’t have many walks, but all the dog walkers watched her with her pups. The ACF staff did a great job providing Pearl a little time apart from the puppies and cleaning up after those three little girls. Media team, thanks for the great updates and photos.
